NGO Empowerment Project for Poverty Reduction in Yemen (Tadamon)

Summary of project activities

The project aims to empower local NGOs (civil society organizations) In four governorates (Aden, Shabwa, Hadramawt and Mahra), building and developing the capacity of career cadres through an integrated training programme, as well as strengthening organizational construction through the provision of advisory services to organizations in organizational structure and institutional building to become powerful organizations capable of attracting donors and working to reduce poverty in Yemeni society. Each year of the project’s life, an annual forum of local organizations in Yemen will be held under the name of the Development Forum, based in Mukalla City, with the aim of participating and non-participating organizations as well as international organizations.

Project's first component

Capacity Building Training Programme for Career Staff

The project works to empower and build the capacity of 30 local institutions by strengthening the capacity and resilience of Yemen’s local institutions in 4 governorates (Aden, Hadramawt, Shabwa, Mahra) Training subjects for targeted local institutions were identified through studies, desk reviews and a number of meetings conducted by the project team, as well as information available from the assessment of the reality and needs of civil society organizations. Local capacities and expertise will therefore be built and developed by providing all the tools and information that establish a participatory work based on the practical foundations of institutions administratively, socially and economically. The topics presented by this section are summarized as follows:

The second component of the project

Consulting services to develop the foundations and pillars of the institutions’ work:

According to a study of the reality of civil society organizations in Hadhramaut Governorate, the percentage of organizations that need consulting services reached 78.5%, and this is what drives the project towards providing consulting services to the targeted local organizations in the aforementioned advisory aspects to develop their construction towards raising the efficiency and effectiveness of each targeted organization. The scope of consultations provided by this department is as follows:

First: Institutional Development Courses:

1. Thinking and strategic planning.
2.Human resources management.
3.Writing administrative and financial reports.
4.Self-learning and the use of technology.

Second: Project Management Courses:

1.Community development and poverty reduction.
2.Study, analysis and assessment of humanitarian needs.
3.Design and write project proposals.
4.Follow-up, evaluation, accountability and learning.
5.Professional project management PMP.
6.Professional risk management RMP.
7.Microsoft Project Software (project planning and time management).
8.Quality management.

Third: Finance courses:

1.Managing financial resources, preparing planning budgets and determining cost (financial planning programme).
2.Mobilizing funding and seeking, identifying and targeting its sources.
3.Procurement and logistics department.

The project's second component

Advisory services for the development of foundations and pillars of foundations’ work:

According to the study of cso in the governorate of Hadramawt, 78.5% of the organizations in need of advisory services. This prompts the project to provide advisory services to the local organizations targeted in the said advisory aspects to develop their construction towards raising the efficiency and effectiveness of each target organization. The Section’s area of consultation is as follows:

Tadamon Development Forum

Every year of the project, the Forum is called “Tadamon Development Forum “. The Development Aid Foundation aims to involve local organizations involved in the project and also non-participating organizations as well as international organizations. The Forum will focus on activities and partnerships that contribute to the exchange of experiences between institutions and individuals participating in the Forum.
